Ankle
The ankle joint connects the foot and leg. It consists of three bones: the fibula, the tibia and astrágalo. The first two form a dome wherein the dome fits third.
It is a complex joint which allows rotational movements forwards and backwards and sideways movements, while appendixes bone and tibia fibula on either side, prevent full movement of lateral rotation but do allow its inception. Ligaments, that connect the bones together, stabilize and support the ankle tendons and muscles and move it.
The astrágalo rests on the heel bone (calcáneo) forming a fairly flat articulation, that has little movement and that is the source of many problems as it supports the body weight and fine movements governed foot stability. When this cartilage deteriorates one arthritic joint degeneration and pain occurs, sometimes requires surgery to suppress or relieve.
Main problems of the ankle
- Torceduras
Sprains or strains, are injuries to ligaments. - Fractures
Fractures are bone fractures. - Injuries to tendons and cartilage
Articular cartilage lesions (osteocondritis) - Impingement syndrome.
When after a sprain or fibrosis scar tissue formed within the joint, that is pinched and generates pain in certain movements.
FAQ

Sometimes, after a sprain pinching tissue forms within the joint, or zone of cartilage loose talus. Both diseases can be treated by arthroscopy.
